About Me

I’m a craftsman and metalworker living in Seattle, WA. I’m happiest when I’m making beautiful and functional things, learning how to make new things, or making tools that I can use to make more things. Everything I design and make is meant to be used, and used well, for a long time.

It started with a wallet. A good wallet doesn’t have to be fancy. With the right materials and care, it’ll stand up to years of use. And a sturdy dependable wallet—the kind you can use every day for all those years—develops its own character, its own patina. So I wanted a leather wallet…but I didn’t want to buy one because I knew I could make exactly the one I wanted. So I did. It was (and still is) great!

Still, I knew I could make a better version; still simple, but with neater stitches, cleaner edges. I made a wallet for my partner, and then a few for friends who saw mine and wanted one like it. That was the beginning of Reed Hammer & Needle: it started as an excuse to keep making more. Now it’s grown into a way to make something beautiful and useful for others. Maybe even for you.

My Mission

To create hardy, cleanly designed products for a lifetime’s worth of daily use

– because seeing beautiful things made well and used for years gives me joy.

Functional, beautiful, simple, clean.
